I have introduced a new website to replace my old website. The new website received 350 visitors a day, much more than I had expected. I did not measure the visits to my old website, but it must be quite low. Let me introduce you to the tabs in the new website.
The Information tab is the core of the website. It contains many documents that are stored by category. You can select a category to display a list of titles. You can also search for a document using a keyword. The search will be performed on the title or description fields, but not the actual content of the document.
The Latest tab displays the latest documents added to the Information database. It allows you to see the new documents that have been added recently.
The "Ask Mr. Tan" tab shows my FAQs on insurance and investments. Some visitors thought that it is an inquiry form, which is kept under the separate tab.
The advantage of the new website structure is the ease of adding new documents to the Information database. I will create it a document using Word, convert it into a PDF document and add it to the database. This allows me to keep a dynamic website that allows new information to be added easily.
I prefer to keep the information in the documents using a simple layout. This makes the content easy to read. I have asked a designer to look for a simple graphic or improve the color to make the PDF document more interesting. This will be done in stages.
Some readers have give a few suggestions to change the design of the website to be "more professional". I thank them for their suggestion which will be considered later. At present, I prefer the design to be simple and the search to be easy and fast. I shall monitor the site meter to see if there are people interested to come and search for the information.
